We will finally have a high temp tomorrow that is right on target for this time of year. It's been pretty cold the last few mornings. Today...that morning chill will be replaced with some nice afternoon temps. We'll have a high today about 6 degrees warmer than it was yesterday. We'll make it to 65 today. The warming trend will continue tomorrow with a high of 68...then lower 70s for the weekend! The dry pattern will continue. The kids looking forward to trick or treating will be glad that they won't have to carry an umbrella along with candy bags! The sun will set tomorrow night at 6:46. It will be dark by 7:10. Once the sun goes down...those warm afternoon temps will disappear. Trick or treat temps will be in the 50s.
Mon, 27 Oct 2008 09:39:00 GMT10/27/08-Monday 6am Quick update since I'm on the air! Get ready for BIG changes today. The front just passed Atlanta and the winds are starting to whip up. We have a wind advisory in effect for today with winds coming in from the NW at 15-25mph with higher gusts. That wind will literally blow in the much colder air. We started off this morning in the mid 50s...we'll only move up a few more degrees to a high of 59. This air is coming in from Canada. It is not only cold...but also very dry air. Relative humidity this afternoon will be in the 20-30% range. Since the air is so dry...and the wind will be so strong...and the ground is so dry, there is a Red Flag Warning in effect. That means there is a high fire danger for today. If a spark ingites a fire, it would spread quickly with all of this wind fueling the fire. Temps will be very cold tonight. Thanks to the wind, we'll stay above freezing here in the city Tuesday morning. We expect lows to be near 35. There will be some folks in the rural areas who will feel temps near the freezing mark. Bundle up!! Fri, 24 Oct 2008 15:14:00 GMT10/24/08-Friday 11am We need the rain...right? I know it is wet, windy, and cold...but before we're tempted to complain about how nasty it is outside...just remember, we NEED the rain. So far, Atlanta has picked up about a half of an inch. We will have varying rain amounts recorded today. Some folks will pick up a little more...some a little less. But it will be a good rain that will soak into the ground rather than all of it running off. The cool air is entrenched over us. Temps this morning were in the 40s...we are struggling to rise out of the 40s. Some areas will make it into the mid 50s. This cool east wind will break tomorrow with some warmer air returning Rain will be pushing to the east tonight. Football fields will be wet for High School football tonight. There will be a few lingering showers around as it tapers off and moves to the east. Drier air will move in Saturday with a little more sunshine and highs in the mid 60s. I'll be back in with you Saturday and Sunday morning so Steve can have some time off! Thu, 23 Oct 2008 14:09:00 GMT10/23/08-Thursday 10am Are you feeling the changes out there? The wind started whipping up last night and it will continue to be rather brisk today. That east wind is the main contributor to the changes that we will experience over the next couple of days. First, that east wind is bringing in some cooler air. Our highs today will be about 5 degrees cooler than it was yesterday. We still have some dry air at the surface...but in the upper levels, we have warmer air that is holding on to some moisture. We will see more clouds developing and thickening up today. Out to the west, we have some rain that is moving this way. That rain will move in early Friday morning. The shallow, cool layer of air will still be here. It's going to be a "raw" day with cool, soggy conditions. The wind will still be brisk Friday, too. This weather feature is often called the "wedge." It gets the name because that cool, shallow layer of air gets wedged up against the Appalachians and just drains like molasses down into north Georgia and metro Atlanta. Mon, 20 Oct 2008 15:24:00 GMT10/20/08-Monday 11am It was a cool one out there this morning. In fact, the last time it was this cool was back in April. We even had a frost advisory for west Georgia and a freeze warning for the mountain areas of north Georgia overnight. Those advisories expired at 9am. Here's a look at some of the chilly temps we had this morning: Athens-39 Atlanta-44 Cartersville-36 Gainesville-41 Marietta-41 Peachtree City-35 Rome-35 West Atlanta-37 Alpharetta-36 Cedartown-35 Cleveland-33 Helen-34 Saute-33 Summerville-32 Temps are warming a little more this afternoon. We will have another chilly night tonight with mainly 40s in the metro area. Some 30s will appear again on the west side by morning. |
